Here's an oddity in the 5th race at Saratoga today (I had the 2 horse keyed in a few different bets): Correction: I had the 1 horse. It was the show price that made me look up the pool totals.
The 8 horse in this race had $10 in the win pool, $2 in the place pool and $986 in the show pool. $986 to show in a pool of $1412 total on a horse that was 87-1? What the heck was that all about?
So who is going to watch the harness race race on the turf Friday night at the Meadowlands? "For the first time in 30 years, harness
horses will race on the turf at the Meadowlands Friday, June 19. A
field of eight, $15,000 claiming pacers will line up behind the mobile
starting gate for a one-mile event on the grass." Arghhhh, is there really any interest in this outside of it being a once in a blue moon curiosity? What's next? Start half the field in the opposite direction to spice things up? It would be like a big game of chicken at the wire, with horses bearing down on each other at 30 mph! Check out this link to see what happened in the turf race 30 years ago. Have a great Wednesday while Handicapping Harness!
Happy Birthday to The Clocker, who turns XX today. We tried to find out how old he was by checking his teeth (carbon dating), but the report had us confused, as it said he was a three year old. Then we remembered that all of his teeth are false and were just installed a short while ago! Anyway, chew on some oats and have a Happy Birthday Boy! Have a good day Handicapping Harness!
Looking for a few good Men (or Woman)
